Game Art: Gamerz 02 (January 15-27, Sextius, Aix-En-Provence, France)
by Matteo Bittanti
Gamerz 02, a new exhibition entirely dedicated to Game Art will open in Aix-En-Provence on January 15. The focus of the event is the artistic potential of videogames and the new frontiers of ludic experimentation. The follow up to Gamerz has a multidisciplinary ambition and features twenty different artists from all over the world whose works are directly inspired by videogames. In addition, Gamerz features a seres of performances, concerts, and installations. The artworks on display include the art game Samorost 2, music installations (like this one), 8-bit music sessions courtesy of French musicians Confipop and Sidabitball, interesting interfaces (such as the carton board guns designed by Sylvie Reno, or Antonin Fourneau, Manuel Braun's new controller for Street Fighter II) and quirky portraits of gamers (see Sylvain Huguet's video).
The complete list of artists includes: Dardex Mort2faim, Quentin Destieu, Romain Senatore, Sylvain Huguet, Paul Destieu, Benjamin Cadon, Sylvie Reno, Servovalve, Guillaume Stagnaro, Antonin Fourneau, Manuel Braun, Sidabitball, Confipop, Jankenpopp, Damien Aspe, Pierrick Thébault, Pierre Andrieux, Philippe Coudert, Pascal Silondi and Stephane Kyles.
A must see.
